Blaine Leslie Graham, of Beaumont, Texas, died January 13, 2026. It was the end of a life full of challenges, adventures, and deep, meaningful relationships.
Blaine was born April 11, 1964, and raised in Michigan. He was the son of Gordon and Betty Graham who preceded him in death. He attended Concordia University in River Forest, Illinois. He loved his time in the Chicago area making friends he would maintain until the end. Having grown up in a small town, he enjoyed the range of experiences and people he encountered there. He referred to it as his “youthful adventures” and loved telling stories about his exploits with the football players on his residence hall floor, caving with his friends, hiking the Appalachian Trail, attending Renaissance Festivals, and gaming.
Blaine’s collegiate journey was long and challenging. He pursued a degree in theology with the intention of becoming a Lutheran minister. However, he discovered there were things he simply could not support in the lessons he was studying. He switched tracks and moved into psychology and social work. After several years working in the field, he became disillusioned and decided to move on.
His true passion was for game design and writing. He entertained many people with his adventures and games. His longest and deepest relationships were with the gaming friends he continued to play with until the end. As the end approached, many of them journeyed to Southeast Texas to play one last game and say goodbye. He was surprised by how many people cared and wanted to see him one more time. Their love buoyed him through the ravages of his final illness.
Blaine is survived by his wife, Nicki Michalski, sister Babette Herrara, friend Kevin Morrell, nieces, nephews, and a great number of friends who will deeply miss him.
A memorial service will be held February 21, 2026, in the Communication Building on the Lamar University campus. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the National Kidney Foundation or the 15/10 We Rate Dogs Foundation.
