Born on Jefferson Island, LA, at a private residence on November 2, 1943, she was the daughter of Lawless J. Hebert and Dorothy (Delahoussaye). The family moved to Texas when she was 3 years old, and she only knew how to speak Cajun French. She grew up in Bridge City, where she went to school, married, and started her family with Fredrick W. Stearns. Together they had one daughter, Melissa. A few years into the marriage Fredrick developed cancer which took his life leaving Gloria a widow, and she never remarried.
In her early years, she enjoyed camping, boating, traveling, dancing, and hanging out with friends. In her later years she enjoyed reading, riding her golf cart (The Meems Mobile), visiting neighbors, never hesitating to asking for help from family or anyone in the neighborhood, she loved a perfectly manicured yard, loved to start a good fire, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her only great granddaughter, Kennedy.
She was fondly known as Meems, a name given to her by her granddaughter, Shanna. To know her was to love her, she loved to talk on the phone to friends and family, and firmly resisted texting. She was a demanding person that never held her opinion to herself. She spent most of the past few years in pain, and often called on Jesus for healing and pain relief.
She is preceded in death by her father, Lawless Hebert, her mother Dorothy Self, her stepfather William Self, sisters Diana
Dronet, Peggy Miller and husband Laurie, Linda Bray and husband Darrell, and brother in law Bill Skinner.
She is survived by her only child, Melissa A. Menard and husband Ryan, Sister Susan Skinner, brothers, Mark Hebert, Larson Hebert, Granddaughter Shanna Harding and husband Nathan, Grandson Jeremy Menard and wife Courtnie, 5 great grand children, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
