A Life Remembered

Obituary

Joy Dell Richardson McCraven, 82, of Orange, Texas, peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 20, 2025, surrounded by the love and care of her family.

A woman of faith, grace, and love, Joy spent her life serving others and sharing the kindness that defined her character. She worked for many years as a Medical Technologist at St. Mary Hospital, where her diligence and compassion impacted both patients and colleagues. After her retirement, Joy continued to inspire and nurture others as a substitute teacher in Bridge City, sharing her love of learning with students and staff.

Faith was at the center of Joy’s life. Her favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 40:31, was a source of constant strength and inspiration: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” This verse exemplified the way Joy approached life—with unshakable trust in God’s plan and the quiet courage to keep moving forward, even in difficult times. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Alexander, in the arms of her Savior, walking alongside Him with renewed strength and peace.

Joy was also devoted to her family, who were the light of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa Chatlosh and her husband James, and Emily Lee and her husband Chris. Emily cared for her mother with incredible devotion in her final years, a bond of love and connection that brought comfort to both. Joy’s grandchildren—Alexander Beckham and his wife Julie, Crockett Alan McCraven and his wife Meredith, and Kelsie McCraven—brought her immense pride and joy. Her love for her family was unconditional and will remain a guiding light for generations to come.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Little Cypress Baptist Church, 3274 Little Cypress Drive, Orange, TX. Visitation with family will begin at 11:00 a.m., with the service to follow.
