Joyce Toland, born in Wyoming and a long time resident of Southeast Texas passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024 in Lumberton, Texas, at the age of 65. Many of her friends and loved ones will remember the tea parties and dinners hosted over the years. Her deep faith and commitment to her beliefs were evident in her active involvement with the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Joyce found fulfillment in door-to-door service and studying the Bible, which allowed her to share her spiritual insights with others in her community. Joyce is survived by her daughters Nondi Nations and Carla (Jacob) Grimes, 5 grandchildren, brothers Richard (Elmira) Moore and Kevin (Cindy) Moore, as well as close niece Tiffany (Mark) Gore. Joyce was brilliant and witty. Her patients were immaculately cared for and she was the kind of nurse that set the bar very high. I was fortunate enough to work with her as a nurse and a nursing professor. As a friend, I loved her honesty and desire to want the best for those around here. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely! 🩷🩷🩷

My sweet friend, Joyce, whose smile lit up the entire room and made you feel welcomed and loved. I will remember our friendship, years growing up, sleep overs, bad experiments with hair color, and all the laughs a friend can provide. All your family has been a blessing and bright light in my life, and I will miss your presence among us.

I had the awesome privilege of working with her on 3 tower CCU at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. Although our encounter was brief, we became good friends. I am shocked and sadden by her passing. She will forever be in my thoughts.

Professional, committed and passionate about nursing seems to be an understatement. I had the wonderful opportunity to cross paths with Joyce in a couple of her roles. She was instrumental in starting the CVICU at BHSET, her commitment to student learning and simulation at MSU, working at LCMH to provide the best care for others and role model professional nursing. If you ever worked with Joyce, she left you a better nurse!
