Norman Wayne Theriot, Sr.

December 29, 1936 – April 1, 2025

Norman Wayne Theriot, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2025, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He was 88 years old. As he had always hoped, he was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments.

Born on December 29, 1936, at Hotel Dieu in Beaumont, Texas, Norman was the beloved son of the late Mildred Wooldridge Theriot and Wilfred Pierre Theriot. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Donna Sue Davis and Barbara Anne Theriot, and by his cherished daughter, Lydia Theriot Baker.

A proud graduate of Nederland High School, Class of 1955, Norman went on to build a successful career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1987. He was known not only for his strong work ethic, but also for his love of the outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, or sharing a lively game of dominoes (especially when he could charm a win), Norman relished every moment.

His heart belonged to Louisiana, which he lovingly referred to as “God’s Country.” He treasured time spent with his many cousins and loved ones, attending family reunions, soaking in the sound of Cajun music, and delving deep into family genealogy – an unofficial historian of the Theriot legacy.

Norman is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Pug Theriot; his children, Reatha Theriot Whiteman and husband Eddie, Norman “Wayne” Theriot, Jr. and wife Barbara, David Lynn Waters, and Angela Theriot Miles and husband Jason; and his cousin – more like a brother – Charles Theriot and his wife Joyce.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family of cousins, nieces, and cherished friends. His faithful canine companions, Ms. K2 and Ms. Sasha, were always close by and brought him immense comfort and joy.

Norman Wayne Theriot, Sr. will be remembered for his humor, his storytelling, his deep love for his family, and his enduring Cajun spirit. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service for Norman will be held at a later date.

Cremation to be held under the direction of Simple Tributes by Claybar.

Norman visited our family in Grand Chenier as our Dad Snook was his first cousin. Norman and Freddie got in trouble shooting an arrow into the air that landed where it shouldn't have.

Norman was my second cousin. My Dad, Steven Theriot was his first cousin. Norman truly had his roots in Grand Chenier, Louisiana. He loved visiting with our family and filming all the musicians. His last trip was less than a year ago and he told me it would be his last. I didn’t know his condition until he was ready to leave the great Chenier. He told me, and we hugged and said our good byes. There was a true bond between his first cousins here in Louisiana that he refused to let die….Aunt Alice T Richard, Uncle Dan and Uncle Steven. He was so proud of them and loved them immensely! Norman will always be remembered on the Chenier!

I will always remember Norman for his deep love and devotion to his family. He shared a lot of history with me about our side of the family in Texas. I was glad I took the time to visit him and pug about 4 years ago. He showed me lots of photos of our family members who are deceased. RIP Norman and if you find daddy, Gran Paw Dutch and Uncle Jack, make em play a tune for you..
