Shirley Charline Woodland, 73, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on July 27, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
Born in Panhandle, TX, on July 26, 1953, she was the daughter of Levie Mitchell and Emma Lennora (Smart) Mitchell. To know Shirley was to love her. She possessed a heart of gold, always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her generosity knew no bounds; if she sensed someone required assistance, she would give the shirt off her back without a second thought. This innate kindness was a cornerstone of her character, reflecting her deep capacity for unconditional love for all people.
Shirley's greatest joy came from her family. She loved her children and adored her grandchildren, treating each one equally and ensuring no one ever felt left out or treated differently. Her love was a constant, encompassing force in their lives. Even when faced with hurt, Shirley consistently chose forgiveness, a testament to her extraordinary compassion and the depth of her character. She embodied a strength that was truly remarkable, inspiring all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Beyond her loving nature, Shirley embraced life with enthusiasm and a playful spirit. She found immense enjoyment in bingo and cherished late-night casino trips, always ready for a bit of fun. Even in recent times, she still savored a good Cuervo margarita. A devoted fan, Shirley passionately cheered on her beloved Astros, sharing her excitement with those around her.
Shirley’s life was a beacon of love, strength, and compassion. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends, who will continue to be inspired by her unwavering kindness and her extraordinary ability to love unconditionally.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Levie & Emma Mitchell of Panhandle, TX; many brothers, sisters, and in-laws from every corner of Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Wayne Woodland of Lumberton, TX; children, Brandy Woodland, of Lumberton, Samantha Woodland, of Lumberton, Brannon Woodland & wife Tiffany, of Lumberton; granddaughter Tristin Woodland, grandson Weston Erwin, grandson Hayden Roberts, grandson Kyler Woodland, grandson Nicholas Woodland, granddaughter Charleigh Woodland; sisters, Vickie Carver of Spurger, TX, Jennita Whelchel & husband James Roy of Borger, TX; and by a multitude of nieces and nephews, and other loving family and friends.
A Celebration of Life held at Rock ‘N Dollar Ranch, TX 11134 Burge Rd Lumberton, TX 77657 on Saturday, August 1st, at 5pm. The family encourages everyone to dress comfortably, as mom would have it, and wear your favorite Astros gear.
